The biggest joy through the series was of course continuing learning from you; I can't thank you enough for the many many ways your classes have brought me peace and joy. A big part of that this time was also the community you brought together! I still treasure the sense of being a part of that loving supportive space.
Of the physical movements, I found particularly helpful the placement of the hands in a triangle at the pelvis to track its position, helping connect changes in pelvic tilt with the resulting changes in the lower back and down the leg.

During the first year of launching a brand new program at Rockefeller Center (and later across other buildings near and far), MaryJoanna was essential to our wellness programming. Our clients looked forward to weekly yoga and meditation sessions, some even requesting private sessions just for their company or team. Once you meet her, you are instantly calmed and able to open yourself to the idea of a meditation or yoga practice. She makes all classes, poses, breathwork and intentional thought feel attainable even if you are new to the idea of a wellness experience. After a few months, we had members requesting that yoga was hosted by MaryJoanna (instead of other instructors offered as available). Personally, I was new to meditation and would consider myself a beginner in the yoga practice; joining MaryJoanna's classes helped ease me into both practices, while learning to truly enjoy self-care. My weekly yoga class with MJ was the only time I carved out for myself during my initial postpartum (6m or so) period, and during my second pregnancy. I adore my toddler and had a hard time doing anything for myself with everyone home - but I remember the release of crying during the first session when MJ encouraged me to believe it was okay to do something that was just for me. Physically, it helped so much to rebuild strength in my core and legs that was definitely lacking after my first delivery, and I especially enjoyed the pelvic floor work. I conceived my second child when my first child was 13 months, and yoga and some walking was my only exercise during my second pregnancy. I hurt my groin and had limited mobility much of the 40 weeks, and our practice helped me stay active while being kind to my injuries. MJ was so responsive to my desire to push my body physically but always incorporated ways to
get me there gently.
Taking the hour or so every week to connect with MJ and acknowledge myself as a person in ADDITION to being a mother and a wife.... I am so grateful for that time that encouraged me to respect myself as a strong independent human worthy of my own time even if I am a badass GIVER OF LIFE and caregiver for others.

During the height of the pandemic, people at my law firm were burnt out. I thought it might be worthwhile to ask MaryJoanna to lead a few dozen colleagues in a virtual zoom, with breathing, meditation and yoga. Her program exceeded my wildest expectations, so much so that I am still employing some of the practices she so generously imparted daily. And every person on the zoom contacted me to see how her guidance was impactful and simply wonderful. So, then I asked MaryJoanna to give a program to a social justice Board on which I serve as a Director. And not just the Board, the employees. These are people who are in the trenches, trying to secure safety and equality for underprivileged and oppressed people.
